DivShare video, audio and images on your Facebook wall!

Thursday, July 26th, 2007

Today we’re rolling out a really cool enhancement to our Facebook app — you can now attach any DivShare file to a post on your friend’s walls! This means that, for the first time on Facebook, you can attach a Flash video, a playable MP3, an image or any other file to anyone’s wall.

It’s as easy as clicking the “Add Attachment” button on your friend’s wall, then choosing the DivShare “Attach a File” option. From there, you can upload any file that you’d normally post to DivShare — videos, audio, and anything else — and it will be displayed right below the post on your friend’s wall. We’ll automatically convert Flash videos and display our Flash MP3 player, and images will appear in thumbnail form. For all other files, you’ll see a link to their download page.

We’re really excited to be the first app to truly take advantage of the new wall attachments, which Facebook just launched this morning. Check out the DivShare Application, add it to your account, and start adding media to your friends’ walls. Enjoy!

More application features: Over the next few days we’ll be adding the Flash video/audio players for files you post on your profile, and building a mini-dashboard within Facebook so that you can manage your files using that interface, as well as post previously uploaded files to messages and walls.

Brand new slideshow design

Friday, July 13th, 2007

Today we’re proud to release the sleek, sexy new Flash slideshow design, which we’ve been working on and plugging here on the blog over the past couple weeks. The new design allows the image to take up the entire space of the embed, and adds a sleek navigation system and some cool controls that appear only when you hover over the embed. It also includes an “autoplay” button, which allows your viewers to watch the slideshow roll without clicking to see each new image. Check it out:

This player will automatically replace your old ones, so you won’t have to make any changes to your code. Don’t forget that there’s a free month of DivShare Direct for all new upgrades this weekend, and leave all your Flash slideshow comments below. Next up, we have a really cool Flash uploader that you can embed into your own sites — we’ll provide more details as we get closer to release.

The DivShare Facebook Application

Monday, July 9th, 2007

We’re proud to announce the DivShare Application on Facebook, which allows users to quickly upload files and send them to their friends, post them to their profiles or add them to their news feeds. It’s an awesome way to replace e-mail attachments when sending stuff to your Facebook friends, and a great way to get your files in front of all your friends via the profile and news feed.

Check it out: The DivShare Application on Facebook

If you’re a Facebook fan, hop online and add the app to your account today — then help spread the DivShare love by sending your friends some files and inviting them to join as well! DivShare Direct News: Mix your “free” and “direct” files with a single click

Monday, June 25th, 2007

Response to our new DivShare Direct upgrade has been fantastic so far, and tonight we’re rolling out a big upgrade. From here on out, you’ll be able to mix “free” and “direct” files in one account — so you get to choose which files count toward your Direct storage and transfer allotment!

This allows our power users to keep some of their files on the free side of their account, where they benefit from unlimited storage and downloads. At the same time, you’ll be able to choose some (or all) of your files to take advantage of DivShare Direct’s one-of-a-kind Flash player branding and direct linking features. Switching between the two is as easy as a click on your Dashboard, and you can set a default mode for newly uploaded files in your account preferences.

All your files can still be up to 2 GB in size and uploaded with your own FTP account. And if your files get really popular and you use all your Direct data transfer, we’ll never take them offline — instead, they will just switch over to Free mode until you upgrade or the month renews.

One more big thing: On Wednesday, we’ll be offering a free month of DivShare Direct to everyone who upgrades! It’s a great opportunity, and if you’ve been thinking about trying out Direct, this is your chance to get your first month at no charge.

In other news, we are working on some hot new Flash slideshow designs, as well as a Flash uploader that you’ll be able to embed into your site, allowing your visitors to easily send you files. Hit us up with questions and comments, and enjoy the new features!

The old “private file” feature takes a final bow

Friday, June 22nd, 2007

As we mentioned last week, we’ve officially retired the “private file” feature in favor of the more convenient password-protected folders. If you have any files that are private, they will stay that way, and you will still have the option to make them public from the dashboard. (We’ll be removing the “make this file public” command down the road, but not for a while.) If you have any questions, hit us up at support@divshare.com.

Add password protection to your folders!

Sunday, June 17th, 2007

We’re introducing a new privacy option tonight — you can now password-protect all the files in any folder or gallery by simply adding a password to your folder. When outside users visit your download pages, they’ll have to enter the password (which you can provide to individual users or post on your blog, for example) before they can access the files in that folder. You can add a password on the upload form when you create a new folder, or from the Dashboard’s folder pages. Hit us up with any questions or ideas in the comments, and enjoy the new feature!

Improved code for posting images on forums

Saturday, June 16th, 2007

We’ve gotten a few reports from our members that our new image URLs weren’t compatible with some forum software, which requires a “.jpg” or other extension at the end of the filename. We’ve just rolled out a fix that adds the proper extension to all the image URLs — you can grab the new code out of the sharing options on any download page. Enjoy!

Long file descriptions, forum code and file passwords

Thursday, June 14th, 2007

Hey guys, thanks to everyone who was a part of DivShare’s biggest day ever for yesterday’s launch of the new version. Tonight we’re rolling out a few quick upgrades — we’ve boosted the maximum length of file descriptions from 50 to 255 characters, and we’ve put a Forum link (BBCode) on all your download pages and sharing link lists. In the next few days we will be adding an option to password-protect a file, allowing you to share the file with a small group of people to whom you give that password. If someone tries to go to your file’s download page, they won’t be able to see or download anything without the password.

Stay tuned, and thanks for using DivShare.

Tonight’s the night!

Tuesday, June 12th, 2007

It’s a big day for DivShare — we’re nearing our six-month anniversary, and in that time we’ve built a base of more than 75,000 members who have uploaded nearly a million files. Tonight, we’re proud to introduce a brand new version of the site — redesigned, packed with new features and improved all around. We’re launching at midnight ET.

The biggest news is our new premium plan, DivShare Direct. It allows you to link directly to your files — with no download pages — and provides an unparalleled level of customization for the Flash video, audio and slideshow players you can embed on your own site. Plans start at less than 5 bucks a month, and include all our current premium upload features, like 2 GB file size and FTP access.

We’ve also done a full redesign of the site, focusing on simplicity and usability the whole way through. As part of that mission, a few features have been retired — most notably groups, profiles and inboxes/favorites. We’re also adding a bunch of options to the dashboard to keep you organized — you can switch to icon and thumbnail view, sort your folders alphabetically, and browse automatic categories like Images, Documents and Video. The new design, improved organization and awesome new premium options really move DS toward our goal in life: to be the smart, simple web host for everyone.

Stay tuned tonight for the launch and all the details on the new features. In the meantime, drop us an e-mail or comment away with any questions. See ya tonight!

Flash Video and Audio: Upgraded and Redesigned

Thursday, June 7th, 2007

Great news! Tonight we’re rolling out a redesigned Flash MP3 player and some cool tweaks to the video player that will make your DivShare embeds even better. We’ve also got some really cool stuff in store for you over the next week in this department, so stay tuned. First up, the new MP3 player:

Obviously the visual redesign brings it in line with our Flash video design, which is cool. Behind the scenes, we’ve also dramatically simplified the embed code, which will make it a lot easier for you to add the audio player to your site. And we’ve also added an option that makes it easy to grab the embed code from the Flash player — just click that “< >” icon to copy the code to your clipboard for transfer to another site. (We also know that a few people might not want this feature, so we’ll be adding an account preference to disable it tomorrow.)

Next up, videos. We’ve added the automatic embed code here as well and spruced up some of the other functionality for some added hotness. Here’s an example from our friends over at GnarStar.tv:

As you can see, the new embed code tool is in there too. Also, for both players, you can add the autoplay feature very easily, and there’s a lot less code to parse through. Just find this snippet, which appears in the code twice —

Then add &autoplay=true to the end.

We’ve also got a new Flash slideshow embed cooking, so we’ll release that over the next couple days. Stay tuned for a ton of upgrades, a redesign, new features and new premium options soon. And if you visited the site in the last 24 hours, thanks for being a part of DivShare’s highest-traffic day ever. Happy uploading!
