Important news for our Asian members

Today we have an announcement that will affect many of our users in China and Southeast Asia, as well as users whose files receive traffic from this part of the world. As of Tuesday, February 12, files hosted in free DivShare accounts will no longer be accessible to visitors in this region. Premium users will not be affected the by this change, and current users in this region will always be able to access their own files. No files will be deleted.

The affected countries are: China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, Brunei, Singapore, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia and Mongolia.

Downloaders: If you are in these countries, you will be able to download any file from any uploader if you have a premium account.

Existing Free Members: Starting Feb. 12, files in free accounts will not be accessible from the above countries unless the downloader has a premium account. If you live in one of these countries and are already a member, you will still have access to the files in your free account. All visitors from other countries will still have access to your files. If you would like to continue to serve downloads to China and Southeast Asia, an upgrade will allow you to do so.

Upgrading: We have created a new premium account, DivShare Basic, for members in the above countries. The Basic plan includes 5 GB of storage and 50 GB of downloads per month for just $3.95 per month. Current free members in China and Southeast Asia will be able to switch to Basic premium plans and continue to serve files to visitors anywhere in the world. New members from this region will only have the option to sign up for Basic or one of the other premium plans.

Why the change? Our free accounts are supported by advertising, and unfortunately the online advertising market in China and Southeast Asia is much weaker than in other parts of the world. We’re still proud to offer our storage and sharing services to users in this region, but we ask that they join us as premium rather than ad-supported members.

If you have any questions or are interested in a custom premium account, let us know. Thanks for being a part of DivShare!

    Selamat Tinggal DivShare

I was supposed to be a paying member, im on the free trial as a current customer. however im not sure if i’ll be carry on. I’ve sent 10 emails to support, and none have been answered. Why should i pay for a service when no one there gives a fly fudgicle and ignores support questions?

Alasannya sih “Our free accounts are supported by advertising, and unfortunately the online advertising market in China and Southeast Asia is much weaker than in other parts of the world.” […]

people, it is not uncommon for a website to block a region. i imagine it is not free for divshare to host the million+ files its users have uploaded. if users in a region are COSTING them money (which seems to be the case, according to the blog), it only makes sense for them to do this. divshare is by far the cleanest and easiest to use file storage website i have found. i gladly pay 14.95 a month for their services.

problem is they suck at customer service, and ignore their paying customers. Not sure i’ll stay with the. Also they’re not the only host like this anymore, several others have since launched that are equally as clean, and don’t have the downtime, speed or loading issues

I just see a class action suit being slapped on you guys soon. I haven’t had a decent week’s service since signing up for the premium service. Nothing but headaches, and now you guys don’t even answer my emails. Shame on you guys. Uploading sucks because it won’t upload the whole file now, the FTP upload doesn’t work, plus everytime I go to the download page, it counts as a download whether I download the file or not. Oh, and IF the upload is successful, it doesn’t convert to flash. What the hell am I paying you guys for? This is a total rip off.

  16. solofansubs Says:

How about us paying customers who gets substandard service? We support the free customers too, but we get nothing! Give me my money back!

That is not very good to users.

Not happy for the Asian users as a web company should create services for everyone who has access. Country and location independent.
