Tuesday’s maintenance and upgrade news
This week’s upgrades are progressing nicely, and we’ve just rolled out our new server software that has the site running much faster and more efficiently than it has been over the past few days. We’re still working out a couple issues, including short session times, so you may find yourself accidentally logged out during an upload or regular usage of the site. If you get logged out during an upload, logging back in will automatically add your files to your account.
Thanks for bearing with us on all these upgrades — the end result will be a much faster and more powerful DivShare. If you run into any errors, please let us know at support@divshare.com. The core DivShare team will be headed out to our new west coast HQ tomorrow, so wish us luck and enjoy the upgraded site.

Sadly, no…logging in after the upload will NOT automatically add the file to my account.
I’ve got two files that I uploaded, where I got that message, and immediately logged in.
The files do not show up on my dashboard, so I guess they’re only going to be good for a week.
My suggestion…if the system is working fine, why fiddle with it? All you do is irritate people. I know you want to attract more people by making it more flexible, but every time you do an upgrade or change the system, it manages to foul up something already in place.

I am getting the same issue.

Unlike that hater, I’m really excited for the changes. I also understand how bugs and downtime work. So, speaking of bugs, the divshare plugin for wordpress is now broken. I’ve fired off an email to the support team, but, I thought I’d just address that here so everyone else knows the issues being addressed.

I can verify Mike’s observation–I’m running the DivShare uploader plugin on WPMU, and the plugin quit working after this weekend’s updates.
That issues notwithstanding, the main DivShare site seems to be working much better now. Thanks for your hard work DivShare team!

I’ve probably FORGOTTEN more about bugs and downtime than most people on this site will ever learn!
I also am pleased with DivShare (or I wouldn’t still be using it), and referring to me as a hater merely shows your immaturity level.
There is nothing wrong with change, if change is needed. But instead of making the users the beta testers, the changes should be tested out thoroughly before implementation.
I’m still here. I will still be here next week, next month, and next year.

At the very early stages in the life of a new project like divShare - it is probably fair enough that the participants are “guinea pigs” for every change - but once money starts changing hands that stage ought to be past.
Perhaps divShare ought to have two sites running in tandem - a debugged site and a beta site where changes are introduced first.
Anyone keen to try new or improved features (and help iron out the bugs) could opt for the beta site, whilst those needing reliability could use the main site - where new features be added only once they were fully ’sorted’.

Well - there’s another bug!! My post above was posted somewhat after yours Bosco - but it is showing as being posted 7 hours before!

Hi Rob!
Thank you so much for the quick reply to my e-mail! It means a lot to know you guys are actually listening to your users. Hope the maintenance goes well and that the site will become more stabile. Thank you for providing this great service!!

I don’t question upgrading…I question upgrading without thorough testing. Using your customers as unwilling beta testers is not good practice.

If you’ve forgotten more than we all will ever know, then how can you question upgrading? I’m sure in your magical world, every upgrade goes without a hitch.

Am I the only person who gets a bunch of 500 errors when even just trying to navigate the site?

Im glad divshare is working fine again. I just wish divshare wont get “bugged” again this month cos I really need to upload a lot of files this week and next week. theres no other server like divshare so you’re such a big help for me.
THANKS DIVSHARE. Keep up the good work.

I am a new member of Divshare though I have downloaded a small number of files in the past. I understand that lots of work is occurring on the site but those who complain of loads of problems have a legitimate point. I just read Tuesday’s message concerning upgrades. It is now Saturday morning here. Still, days after this work has been done, behavior is occurring that makes it appear that the site is not functioning whether it actually is or not. In a number of tests, after going to the home page and following the Dashboard link, between ten and fifteen seconds are required before the Dashboard page finishes loading. I saw the same kind of delay at least twice when trying to open the blog page. I tried downloading a file I placed on Divshare and the download went properly with a good speed and a full, uninterrupted download so this does not appear to be a capacity problem. I don’t know how sites are beta tested, though I do know something about beta testing products. Having said that, it appears to me that those who complain about problem after problem have a point. There must be a better way to improve a site than this. I’ve only been a member since about Tuesday and I have not seen the site work smoothly over an extended period.
This is not to depreciate the work and effort of those who run the site. But there must be a better way. On Friday, as another example, I wanted to upload a file but couldn’t do so. I was unable to even get to the home page of the site. I waited perhaps fifteen or twenty seconds while my browser displayed the opening page message on the status line. If I had let the browser sit ten or twenty or thirty more seconds, I don’t know what might have happened.
I have written these comments both to substantiate comments made by others as to problems and to express my strong disagreement with those who engage in personal attacks on those who are critical. Maybe those people need to learn to engage in discussions without ad hominam (spelling) arguments) and disparaging others’ well reasoned observations.

just a question. why is the video conversion taking so long. to think the videos are less than 20mb each. As far as I remember the last time I uploaded a video here, the conversion just took around less than five minutes. are you guys experiencing this also?

I agree with Gene’s very sensible comments.
