A big round of upgrades on the way
You’ve probably noticed that DivShare is growing fast, and we’re hard at work expanding our server farm to handle all the new traffic and keep your uploads and downloads humming along. Over the last few days, two of our servers have been under a lot of stress, which has caused speed problems for the files hosted there — we are currently migrating a number of files away from those machines and adding several more storage arrays to our network, which should bring any affected files back to normal shortly.
As we work on that, there’s a ton of other cool stuff on the horizon for DivShare. We’re close to launching a Flash uploader that you can embed on your own pages, allowing your users to post files to DivShare without ever leaving your site. And we’re upgrading the audio player to support playlists, just like how the slideshow player works for galleries of images. We’ll also be moving our headquarters to Silicon Valley at the beginning of September, which means new offices, more employees and even more new features.
Thanks to everyone for being a part of the site, and keep on uploading. Stay tuned for more updates on our new hardware, new features, and everything DivShare.

I think you provide a great service. I loved the player. Would be better if the name of the file accepts spaces. For example… when I upload a file called “dj keiroz in the mix” it changes to “dj_keiroz_in_the_ mix” because it doesn’t accept spaces.
See ya

Hey guys- First off, let me say that I think you guys have a great setup here, and that’s why I became a paying customer. But I hope the slow downloads issue goes away soon. I have a blog that I just started up and the video files won’t even upload to the site. Since my blog is a video blog, and I’m relying on you to serve the content, you can see my dilemma; If the video isn’t there, I have no content for my visitors until you get this fixed. Do you guys have any time frame as to when these issues will go away?

Hey Rob. I’m also a paying customer. Can’t you introduce download managers at least for those who pay? You said you were going to when I signed up a few months ago. Downloads are just too slow otherwise.

any chance of linkable folders/directories for this upgrade?
August 19th, 2007 at 8:00 am
the download managers are a must, because if you allow the paid users to upload files upto 2 GB each, it only makes sense to introduce the download managers with a “download resume support”, otherwise, all these large files maybe very difficult to be downloaded.
& yes, needless to say, your service is happening!! no wonder, i decided to go paid!! & am pretty happy!!!
thanks,
bharat.

I too think this site is great, and that is why I decided to pay. I like the functionality and the fact that you can personalize the players with your own logo. But I hope that these speed issues go away very soon.

I would really like to be able to either just see all my files on one page, instead of the page 1, page 2, page 3 system.., or be able to control how many files are going be showed at each page.. By the way guys, ur site has been incredibly useful for me and i am very grateful for it, thank u =)
August 19th, 2007 at 4:56 pm
Hey guys- Looks like the changes on the servers are kicking in. My vids are coming down to my site in a timely fashion now. Thanks a million!
You should really start a forum so users can share ideas and help each other out. It would be nice to talk to other people that are using your service and what uses they’ve found for it.
August 20th, 2007 at 2:06 am
I’ll second that forum idea.
August 20th, 2007 at 3:43 am
what about an autoplay option? so that the music i put on my pages can play as soon as visitors enter the profile…

There is a very serious bug in the FTP system of uploads. This arises since divShare requires one to first upload to an FTP personal account page, and then move files from there to folders proper in divShare.
BUT more often than not this transfer process fails part way through. When this happens all files transferred up to that point then appear in the intended folder yet ARE NOT deleted from the FTP page. If one keeps trying and failing then multiple instances of files appear in the divShare folder (even though only one instance was uploaded by FTP). In some cases I have had 10 copies of same file (before sorting out by deleting) - this being due to the transfer process failing part way through 10 times!!
This is both highly annoying since a lot of sorting out is then needed AND very wasteful of divShare storage space.
Could not the FTP page itself be seen on the dashboard as a divShare folder from which files could be moved to other folders? That would make the process easier as thumbnails could be seen. And could not duplicate files of same name either be excluded or flagged in some way for attention?
And why is the process of transfer from FTP page to divShare folders so prone to failure?

Oh wow… you guys have been so busy!! Anyway, thanks for all your hard work!!!!!!

Your slow downloads have caused my group to move. Since you’ve done all your “improvements” things have not been as good as before. This is sad for me because you had an awesome site. The profiles and groups were a BIG lose for us, but the download speeds the last two weeks have been awful. I’m lucky to get anything to even start to download and a 100mb file takes me 3 hours to download. I’m on a VERY fast cable and haven’t seen these kind of speeds since I was on dialup. Too bad you had to make all these changes. I’m just happy you did it BEFORE I started paying.

I keep getting
Error
• Error creating directories.
• Error uploading file.
When I’ve been trying to upload today, anybody else getting this issue?
@sherrie dl speeds have been mostly fixed, im on cable getting around 100 ks its decent i think
August 22nd, 2007 at 8:39 am
Same errors here. And everything is very slow. Guess it’s a matter of time before these things get better?
August 22nd, 2007 at 1:20 pm
First off, I’d like to say that the services you guys provide is awesome! I can’t wait till all the upgrading are done. I’m waiting patiently for the embedded flash uploader. Really needed it on two of my sites…
August 22nd, 2007 at 10:44 pm
The upgrades seem to have kicked in. Thank you. Speeds are significantly faster.

GREAT SERVICE ……….

Interestingly enough, I had already commented here, and for some reason, it no longer exists? And no, I’m not the Jeremy above.
I went with Divshare Direct, and I have contacted support twice, both times being very friendly, especially the second time, where I told them that I really wanted to work with them, that I love ‘the future,’ but unfortunately, the future does me no good today when the video downloads take FOREVER. Everything is REALLY slow, and because of this , I am now looking at alternative options.
I will not close my account. I will wait until Divshare can get a handle on things. I understand growth, and I am hopeful for ‘the future,’ but as of now, all I really did was waste 6 bucks on the direct feature and offer downloads to my site visitors, which only leaves them saddened and disgruntled with the speed.
Bummer.
August 27th, 2007 at 12:24 pm
i agree with a whole bunch of comments that people have made.
*stop renaming our files with underscores. it should be the job of uploader to deal with abiding by the xhtml standards, not yours.
*create links for folders and galleries.
*create a forum for discussing suggestions to improve the site.
August 28th, 2007 at 3:38 am
And above all get the features to work at a speed which is genuinely usable by a viewer/downloader.
August 28th, 2007 at 6:43 am
Oh wait. Yes, I have. I’m sorry, but I just don’t have it in me right now to type it all out again. Besides, it was just ramblings anyway. You didn’t want to hear me go on and on about this, right?
August 30th, 2007 at 2:45 pm
Great site, love it, and really appreciate it that the download pages aren’t covered in ads for porn and casinos. How bout adding something like Google Analytics traffic graphs where you can see when the downloads are happening and the source of that traffic, rather than just the number that have taken place?
August 30th, 2007 at 4:25 pm
Hey,
Thanks for your great service, I really love it, in my opinion DivShare is the best uploading site.
And I like the idea of embedding the flash uploader in my website, it will be really cool.
And I wish you make it possible to have a profile that I can give to my friends and thay can see all my Floders and public files.
Thanks again.
Best Regards..

[…] We’re also adding new application servers to the network this weekend to improve page load times, which have been slow or unreliable for the past couple days. We’ll be rolling out that upgrade tomorrow (Saturday), so you should see a huge improvement over the weekend. Our download servers, which we upgraded last week, are all running at top speed now. Thanks for being a part of DivShare’s rapid growth, and stay tuned for lots more updates and new features on the way. Have a great weekend, and enjoy the faster site! […]
