Brand new slideshow design
Today we’re proud to release the sleek, sexy new Flash slideshow design, which we’ve been working on and plugging here on the blog over the past couple weeks. The new design allows the image to take up the entire space of the embed, and adds a sleek navigation system and some cool controls that appear only when you hover over the embed. It also includes an “autoplay” button, which allows your viewers to watch the slideshow roll without clicking to see each new image. Check it out:
This player will automatically replace your old ones, so you won’t have to make any changes to your code. Don’t forget that there’s a free month of DivShare Direct for all new upgrades this weekend, and leave all your Flash slideshow comments below. Next up, we have a really cool Flash uploader that you can embed into your own sites — we’ll provide more details as we get closer to release.

Your service rocks!
Love the new slideshow, especially the full-screen option.
Because of you guys I have actually gone out and bought a camera so I can take pictures that I can post on my blog…
I do wonder what ever happened to that awesome slideshow where all the pictures faded out into smaller thumbnails that appeared on the bottom of the embed… I miss that…
Keep up the excellent work!

I have some questions about the flash slideshow -
1) Is the slideshow prepared in advance from each Gallery ready to be served on demand - or does it have to be created each time?
2) Does the whole slideshow (i.e. every image) have to load before the first image displays? If so could that not be modified - so that the display starts sooner?
3) How long should it take to load a slideshow on a 512MB broadband connection - currently is the time taken to load in direct proportion to the number of images in the gallery? And is it also proportional to the size (MB’s) of the images in the gallery?
4) Any chance of a couple of extra controls - time between changovers between images & choice of transition effects (to include “dissolve”).
5) Given that at the moment the slideshow will not load at all from most of my galleries - could you issue a “health warning” to go with your slideshow? Such as - If you include more than “X” number of images, or if your images are over “Y” MB each in size the slideshow will not work.
However getting it to work for all Galleries would be a great deal better.

Oh yes - just to complain again about the ads on the paid-for service. We were assured there wouldn’t be any!!!

Hello,
can i Delet folder with all files?

Also - there seems to be a bug in the player - based on your example slideshow. If you right click and zoom in a couple of steps - it doesn’t seem to let one zoom back out again to normal size. Also the pop-up controls cease to be visible so one is stuck (other than hitting “Esc”).

Last comment (for now!) -
The captions work fine when advancing manually - BUT when one goes to autoplay the captions do not show at all unless one touches the mouse every time a new image appears!
Would it perhaps be better to have a contol to toggle captions on/off. Perhaps On by default with the option for the viewer to hide them.

Just to comment on a post, I’ve found out that the gallery only works for files with the following extensions: JPEG, and png. If just one bitmap or air file is included, the gallery won’t run.

Sorry! To correct my post,
Just to comment on a post, I’ve found out that the SLIDESHOW only works for galleries of files with the following extensions: JPEG, and png. If just one bitmap or air file is included in the gallery, the SLIDESHOW won’t run.

May I also add, Rob and Dave, that I wish the slideshow would not just slide coz it’s dizzying to watch it. Can you not make the pictures dissolve or fade out to the next ? Like Berto , i wish the thumbnails would still be there so we can monitor if the slide we wish to focus on is coming. Will the time come when we can add music to our slideshows? Thanks for continuously making improvements on the site.

Perhaps - to satisfy all situations - it might be possible to have scolling thumbnails which could be turned on/off from within the slideshow itself - like the full-screen control.

At last!! - recently uploaded Galleries with a lot of images do seem to actually run as a slideshow now - brilliant.
BUT Galleries uploaded a while back still will not run as a slideshow - surely I haven’t got to re-upload absolutely everything in order for it to work?!

Two things on slideshow -
1) Now working generally well on recently uploaded galleries, but there seems to now be a “quirk” whereby it keeps flashing back and forth between current image and first image in gallery. Perhaps this is before it has fully loaded - but it does make one’s head spin!
2) I suggested before that captions (descriptions) should be manually selectable on/off in menu so that one could see them when in auto play. However that would not help if no description had been entered. Personally I would like actual file names to be visible when pop-up menu was visible - or indeed to be customisable on or off. At the moment in slide show mode there seems to be no way of noting the file number of a picture one likes during the slideshow - only by leaving slide show mode every time to discover filename.

The slide show is still ‘misbehaving’ - flicking back and forth between the first few images in the gallery (both on manual advance and auto-play).
In manual advance mode, even when one clicks to go forward (say from image 3 to image 4) it insists on taking one back to image No.1.
In auto mode it just goes ‘all over the place’ between the images currently loaded.
Is it only me that is having this behaviour? No one else has commented on it.
