Unlimited drag-and-drop upload for everyone!

Tuesday, May 22nd, 2007

Since it’s a beautiful day, we’re opening up the Power Uploader to everyone — so now, you don’t have to be a Pro member to upload more than 10 files at a time. It’s great for uploading full folders, image galleries, or for any other big project. Hit us up in the comments as always, and check it out on the Power Upload page. Enjoy!

New Video Embed Code

Tuesday, May 22nd, 2007

We’re proud to roll out a redesign of our DivShare Video embeds, including a much cleaner embed code snippet and a visual makeover to match the version of the player that’s been running on the site for the last week or so. Because the changes in the HTML are so dramatic, you’ll have to grab the new code to update your old embeds, but the old versions will still work too. Drop us your comments on the new look, and watch out for a ton more Flash news — and a big DivShare redesign, in the next two weeks. Enjoy!

Bigger, better slideshows

Friday, May 18th, 2007

One of our big priorities over the next month is developing cool new ways to present your photos, documents and videos using Flash — and we’ve taken another big step in that direction with today’s new slideshow format. On the download pages, your slideshows will now appear in a larger, sexier format — complete with a lot of the features you’ve requested, like bigger thumbnail previews and a “play” button. Check it out in the screen below, and on this example slideshow.

For now, the embeds will still be in the regular format, and we’ll be introducing a lot of cool new gallery features and formats in coming weeks. Enjoy!

Post directly to your MySpace profile

Friday, May 18th, 2007

Another cool new feature to announce — you can now post any DivShare file to your MySpace profile directly from the download page! Just type in your e-mail and password (we won’t save it), choose the section where you’d like it to appear, and DivShare will make the magic happen. Check it out in the screen below, or on any download page.

We also moved our Facebook sharing link to the new position on the download page, and we’ll be introducing a lot of new social networks (Bebo, Hi5, etc.) soon. Stay tuned!

Scheduled Maintenance: 8 PM EST

Wednesday, May 16th, 2007

Quick maintenance update — we are doing another upgrade to fix the slowdown that one of our servers has been experiencing over the past few days, so some files will be unavailable during the next hour or so. Uploads and the rest of the site should remain online during the upgrade. Sorry for the inconvenience, and keep those hits comin’ :)

Update: All finished!

Anonymous uploaders, heads up!

Tuesday, May 15th, 2007

DivShare is blowing up, and our 56,000+ registered users have been a huge part of our success. We love you guys, and if you have an account already, nothing in this post will affect you. For users who are uploading anonymously, we are making a few changes to make DivShare a better place to publish your stuff.

From here on out, anonymous files will stay online for seven days, and you’ll still get the same freedom of unlimited downloads and no bandwidth restrictions. To make your files stay online forever, it’s as easy as signing up for a free account — all you need is an e-mail address.

Anonymous files will also not be automatically added to our Flash video conversion queue, but you can still add them manually from the download page after logging in or signing up.

If you’ve got a lot to upload, grab an account. We’ll ask you to sign up or log in after you upload more than 10 files anonymously.

There ya go! As we said, nothing changes for registered users, and you’ll still enjoy the convenience of being able to upload a few files before logging into or signing up for your account. You’ve probably got one question: Why are we making these changes? Here’s why:

» To encourage signups and build the DivShare community
» To discourage users from anonymously uploading files that violate our content standards

One last thing. Files that have been uploaded anonymously before today will remain online — however, starting in 24 hours, any anonymous files that haven’t been downloaded for more than 30 days will expire and be removed. So, if you have anything you’ve stored anonymously that you want, grab that file soon. Since almost all of our power users have DivShare accounts, we don’t expect this to be a big problem, but let us know if you do run into any issues during the transition to the new anonymous uploading rules.

In other news, we’re working on a ton of cool stuff, including big server upgrades, new Flash embeds, and tools that allow you to add your DivShare files directly to your profile on your favorite social networks. Stay tuned!

Scheduled Maintenance: 3 PM ET

Monday, May 14th, 2007

DivShare is growing amazingly fast, and we’re working non-stop to keep up — both in launching new features and keeping the network moving as fast as possible. Today we’ll be taking some recently uploaded files down for a few hours to make some changed and upgrades to the network that should increase download speed and provide you with even more bandwidth and storage space.

The site will still be accessible during this time, but some files will be offline starting around 3 PM ET and lasting for about an hour. Let us know if you have any questions, and we’re sorry for the inconvenience. Thanks for being a part of DivShare!

Sort your dashboard alphabetically

Friday, May 11th, 2007

Another cool new tweak to announce — we’ve added alphabetical sorting to the dashboard. Just click the new links at the top of the dash to choose between sorting by name and sorting by date, which is the default. The preference will stick throughout your dashboard session. Here’s a sneak peak:

Enjoy!

DivShare Pro is now ad-free!

Friday, May 11th, 2007

Great news! We’ve added one more reason to try DivShare Pro — it’s now advertisement-free. In addition to being able to upload unlimited 2 GB files via FTP or the Power Uploader, your downloaders will enjoy ad-free download and profile pages, and you’ll never see an ad on DivShare when you’re logged into the site. If you’re new to Pro, here’s a list of the great features:

• Upload files up to 2 GB
• Your own FTP account
• Upload unlimited files with the Power Uploader
• No ads for you or your downloaders

And there are three easy ways to pay: 99¢ per file, $9.95 a month or $79.95 a year (that’s 33% off the monthly price). To learn more or give it a try, head over to the DivShare Pro main page.

Sharing with small-group privacy

Friday, May 11th, 2007

We’ve tweaked the way group files work a little, making the much-requested “small group passwords” feature official. Here’s how privacy on your files works now:

Private files: Only you can see them, and you have to be logged in. You shouldn’t use this for sharing.

Files in private groups: Now, only members of the private group will be able to view the files in that group, and they must be logged in to do so. This eliminates any possibility that a stranger could stumble across your file by typing in or finding the URL — URLs have always been random, though, so this has never been a huge issue. Either way, it’s officially impossible now.

Files in public groups and on your profile: Anyone can see them. We’re going to be adding some search features for these soon, as well.

Public files that aren’t in a group or profile: No one will be able to find these files unless you give them the link or post it elsewhere on the web.

If you have any questions, let us know, and enjoy your new small-group privacy!
