Add Titles to Your Galleries
This morning we have one huge upgrade with a few smaller ones sprinkled on top — the big news: you can now name your image galleries. It’s easy to add titles to your old galleries on the dashboard, and you can also name your new ones using a new field on the upload form, which will appear when you check the “create a gallery” box. Here’s what it looks like:
Once your gallery is online, the name will be displayed just above the gallery thumbnails, as you can see below. In this screenshot you’ll also notice another feature: we are now resizing large images for faster, easier display on the site. Anything above 750 pixels will be scaled down for easy viewing, and you’ll still be able to access the original, full-size file using a “Download” link right below the image.
As some of you may have noticed, we previously used Javascript to resize large images in your browser — we made the switch because the old-fashioned way forced viewers to download a huge image (sometimes a meg or two in size) before the resize took effect. On a slow connection, it could be a real mess. Here’s the faster, cleaner solution:
Next up, we’ll check out the dashboard, where we’ve installed another fancy AJAX editing form that allows you to update your gallery titles without reloading the page. Here’s how it looks:

So, go give your image galleries some clever names, and prepare for some other cool gallery-related stuff, such as the introduction of file folders and MP3 playlists, in the near future. In the meantime, we also have a couple small upgrades that we can’t leave out of today’s post.
For one, we fixed a problem that no one has reported involving the order of multiple files that are uploaded together. We noticed tonight that sometimes multiple files would be uploaded out of order, so they’d appear incorrectly in a gallery or they’d be associated with the wrong file description. After a little hacking, this is all fixed :).
And, to finish off the night, we made some more changes to file flagging. You might remember that last month we added a flagging reason to the form, and now we’re taking it one step further and allowing multiple users to flag a file. This way, we’ll be able to more easily tell if 500 people think a file is breaking the rules, or if one random person clicked the button by accident.
That’s all for now! Enjoy the new gallery features, and post away in the comments with all your other ideas.

What if you have a file wrongly flagged, how would that flag be removed?

OMG! You’re the best!

When I change file from “Private” to “Public” on page two of my file list (dashboard), it always put me back to first page (it does changed from private to public, though). It’s kind of annoying because I want to change more than one files in second page to “Public” (or “Private”). That’s mean I have to keep go to page 2 and change the file and it put me back to page 1 and I have to go to page 2 again.
Ability to make files private, rather than have to do it one at a time. This can be done by have check box and “Make Private” button.
I also spot that there’s still no upload progress bar on picture upload page.
It’s great to hear that file folders and MP3 playlists are coming soon. Guys, you’re doing a great work!
Thanks for all these new features.
note: I’m using Firefox 2 on Windows XP Service Pack 2.

Yeah I’m looking forward to this file folders.
The other thing I ran into is that I was uploading some files and accidentialy also selected the “Gallery” option. So it was uploading all the files and at 99% it gave me a “At least one picture has to be uploaded” and I had to do everything from the beginning…
Could it be possible that it checks first if the files are ok and then uploads them?
Wrong flagged? How’s that possible if you have to give a reason why you flagged it?
Longer file descriptions would also be a nice feature for the future.

“Wrong flagged? How’s that possible if you have to give a reason why you flagged it?”
I didn’t flag it, someone who downloaded it wrongfully flagged it.
As far as I know only downloaders can flag?

My images are still downloading full size before resizing under java. Is this because they were “old” images already uploaded before your new change? Or is the new image resizing system not working?
Well done with all the other features though!!

Jeremy: Yes, the new image resizing feature will only affect newly uploaded files.

thexfile: If you have a file that has been wrongfully flagged and we haven’t already removed the flag, send the URL to support@divshare.com and we will check it out for you.

Would be handy if flagged files could be processed automatically.
Let’s say after two weeks from lastly added flag file’s innocence should be recovered. Or the file should be deleted if there were more then 100 flags within any given 7 days.
To me this sound like reasonable criteria.

“The flags are a mix bag” if a file has a virus it should be flagged but, it can be abused very easily as well.

i really love divshare, finally i found the best fast file hosting service in the net that is free.. you are the best and i thank you for hosting my files so that i have a backup for my important files in case my PC crash.. the new features are really great now i really enjoy uploading images and sharing it to my friends..
i just have a few suggestions, i noticed that files are not alphabetically arranged in dashboard and there is no select all option or a check box to each file that can do command like delete/move/rename at once.. if you can improved this things it will be great cause im having hard time finding my files because it is not arranged alphabetically and when i like to delete multiple files i cant.. there are files i want to rename or make the filename short without underscore but i cant..
new features are so good.. thanks for developing divshare..

Re-naming the galleries is awesome! Good job, guys.
The one other feature I think would be useful for all file uploads, and not just images, is multiple file upload beyond the 4 allowed. For instance, when you upload images to Comcast, you can select a directory on your PC where the files reside, and thumbnails appear for each image — with a check box next to each. You select all or individually, then hit upload. But this is a good start! Uploading more than 4 would be great, though.

Since the images have been resized for viewing I have been having quite a high failure rate (the page and thumbnails load, but the main image often does not).
The large image usually does load if I refresh the page - but the bigger problem is waiting not knowing if the image is loading or not (and therefore whether it’s necessary to refresh).
At least with the full size image (prior to the change) one coulkd see if the image was loading as it was progressive.
Any chance the resized images could be delivered to display progressively so that it was immediately apparent whether or nor a “refresh” was required?

Thanks DivShare - I see the large images are now being delivered ‘progressively’ which is great - one now can tell that the image is “on the way”!
