Stream your MP3s on DivShare!
Time for a brand new feature — streaming MP3s on your download pages. Now, the download pages for all your MP3s (new and old) will include a built-in Flash “Play” button. Just click on that, and the MP3 will stream right to your speakers.
Check out that image above, and listen to this live example from a radio station in Kansas City that’s been using DivShare. We’ll also be introducing a new sharing option that allows you to embed a similar MP3 button into your blog, site or profile within the next few days. Enjoy!
Oh, and one more obvious note: You are responsible for all the files you upload, and it is illegal to share any music to which you don’t own the rights. So please enjoy DivShare responsibly and don’t upload pirated music (even as a private file). As always, hit us up in the comments with all your suggestions.

[…] Among tons of file sharing/hosting sites out there, I consider DivShare as the best because they are free, fast and reliable. Moreover, they keep my files online forever. Now, they have announced a great new addition to their features list – MP3 Streaming. All your old as well as new MP3s will get a built-in Flash “Play” button. […]

Awesome…now all we need is some sort of FTP access so that we can upload these things in bulk! Or maybe you could make it so that we could upload a ZIP file that has a bunch of songs/files in it and it will be extracted once it is on the server.

[…] Now they are introducing more goodies! When you upload MP3’s you’ll be able to stream them directly from the site. They have a working example of an MP3 that you could download/stream in case you want to try it out. I took a screenshot above and you’ll notice in the Play/Pause button there is a small portion that is colored with blue. That appears to be a progress bar for how much of the song has already been downloaded to your computer. The only thing that seems to be missing from this is a progress bar so that you know how far into the song you are and what the total length is. […]

Great little feature -
To make it really useful though, surely “Albums” are needed for Music as well as Photos - so that the player can optionally play through all the files in the folder (sequentially or random).
Otherwise one starts an MP3 playing, goes off to work on other things in other open tabs - and an hour later realizes that one’s head is spinning because one has listened to the same track 25 times!!
And any chance of being able to play m4a and wma tracks too?
January 22nd, 2007 at 2:59 pm
Jeremy: Thanks again for the great insight. We’re working on improving this feature over the next few days.
As far as the looping is concerned, the MP3s now only play one time as to avoid the constant head spinning that would have ensued.

Cheers Dave -
I hasten to add that I wasn’t complaining - it’s just great that you keep adding features!
Just suggesting possible ways it could be even better.
Hope others don’t mind if you have set the player to “single play” (I suppose it could be selectable - ‘continuous’ or ’single play’ if you had the energy to set it up).
Keep up the good work.

I was wondering how you embed a player, as a guy has done in the page linked above.

Hey put a progress bar in the upload
I can’t see how much i’ve been uploaded

Tom: he’s just copied the HTML that has the flash player off the download page for his file. I’ve just tried it and it does work on a remote site. I’m not sure whether this violates the terms of use though as it doesn’t credit divshare at all.
What would be sweet would be if DS created a public version of the flash player (ala YouTube/GoogleVideo), giving the option of either streaming only or stream + download link.
The other great thing is that this could be used for podcasters as a datastorage. I know that space and bandwidth are always an issue for podcasts, this would neatly sidestep that, plus with the flash player they could provide an in-page streaming option for people who didn’t want to subscribe to the RSS feed.

I’ve just re-read that first sentence & realised that it makes no sense, sorry about that. Trying again:
On the download page for an MP3 that you’ve uploaded, if you look at the source code there is an embedded flash player that streams the MP3. If you’re looking for it, look for the HTML comment “Wimpy Button Code”. If you copy everything within the object tags and paste it into your site it will work.
January 24th, 2007 at 6:27 pm
Tom & Glenn: Glenn’s right, that particular blogger just lifted the code right out of the source of the download page. He’s also right that this isn’t the ideal way to do it from a licensing perspective, so please hold off for another day or so and we’ll have our own, official DivShare MP3 embedding code that you can use on your site. Here’s an example design that Dave’s working on now:

Watch the blog for updates on this, and keep those comments coming.

Any sign of that mp3 player thingy? I’m real impatient and I cant wait to try it out. Weather report will be the first to stream. Well guys?
January 26th, 2007 at 1:12 pm
is there a better upload interface? uploading mp3s 5 at a time is too cumbersome. does anybody have a utility to quickly drap and drop a dozen mp3s at once?
January 26th, 2007 at 1:52 pm
Hey Paul, glad you’re excited
Our Flash developer is working on the embeddable player as we speak and should be ready this weekend. Watch the blog for more, and make sure to post your weather forecast, or whatever else you use the new tool for, in the comments.

Hi, what about file resume with download managers?
I tried getright and it doesn’t work…
January 29th, 2007 at 5:38 am
This mp3 thing is what the internet has been lacking. I’m very excited about it.
Any way to upload a whole folder rather then just 5 files at a time?
January 30th, 2007 at 1:05 am
It would be wonderful if there was an online media player - somewhat like Windows Media Player- that would allow me to search all of my uploaded mp3s then sort and play them by Artist, Album, Title, Genre, etc…
I’m looking forward to the time that I can upload all of my legal mp3s and be able to access and play them from anywhere as easily as if I were on my home computer. Any chance of that happening soon?
Thanks divShare!

I am very interested to know if there will be a development that allows m4a files to be embedded on my blog, rather than going through the process of converting the files to mp3. What are the chances?
Cheers
Dan
